About Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy can help you to deal with many different issues that may be affecting your life and can help to give you greater clarity in moving forward.

Sometimes life can be difficult and may leave us feeling stuck, lost or helpless. Counselling offers you a safe place to explore issues and feelings without pressure or judgement. This can help to reduce confusion and encourage positive change in you

I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives – and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling isn’t about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes.

As a person centred counsellor the counselling is client led which means that I offer counselling to meet your individual needs. You decide how you want to use the sessions, what you would like to discuss in each session and how many sessions you would like. I work with you to understand your unique experiences and help you process and make sense of your responses. I do not tell you what to do but encourage you to gain autonomy, recognise choice and identify possible changes you may feel able to make.

Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with me and I will listen with sensitivity and empathy – and without any judgement. In our session your thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor and a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (‘BACP’) and the Accredited Counsellor's, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists - Senior member (ACCPH) , which requires me to be insured to practice, to receive appropriate standards of supervision and undertake relevant Continuing Professional Development. As such, I abide by the guidelines, code of ethics and professional practice standards set out by the BACP and the ACCPH.
As I am accredited and a registered member of these professional bodies, it means that I have met their higher and rigorous standards of training, competence and experience and have demonstrated and evidenced my knowledge and development as an experienced and ethical practitioner. As such, I abide by all of their ethical framework.

I have an enhanced DBS for working with adults, children and Young people.

What Benefits can be expected?

Sometimes it is useful to talk things through with someone independent, perhaps your thoughts are so confusing that you don’t know where to start, and are looking for greater clarity in your life. Counselling can offer you a way of finding the support you need without being judged or criticised. Sharing your problems with another person can help you to see a way forward and an understanding to whatever it is you’re struggling with. Counselling can offer you the opportunity not just to talk, but also to be listened to and heard.

Through greater self-awareness you may be able to shed new light on the situation, you may be able to see things from a different angle and to find new options and new choices which you had not seen before.

Whatever your issues, sharing them with a fully qualified counsellor/therapist or psychotherapist may be the first step towards finding the answers that you’ve been looking for.
